Marriot International CEO Arne Sorenson, who was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, has died as the company confirmed on Tuesday.

Marriott said the CEO passed away on Monday and that it will appoint a new CEO in the next two weeks. Earlier this month, Sorenson stepped back from his full-time CEO role to treat the cancer that was diagnosed in 2019.

Sorenson became the CEO in March 2012 and led the $13 billion acquisition of Starwood Hotels and Resorts in 2016, making Marriott the biggest hotel chain with over 1 million rooms.
